Laundry detergents for professional use

This product group includes complete powder and liquid laundry detergents and multi-component systems for professional users and large-scale consumers who use washing machines with automatic dosing systems. The requirements include, amongst others:

  • Environmental properties (ecotoxicity and biodegradability) of the chemicals used in the products.
  • Health properties of the chemicals used in the products. For example, no use of fragrances, CMR-classified substances, allergenic/sensitising substances or other particularly problematic substances such as identified or potential endocrine disruptors on up-to-date lists from the EU and national authorities.
  • Efficiency tests.
  • Recyclable design of the packaging (and reuse of larger packaging) which contributes to a circular economy.

If this is the first time you are applying, the authorized signatory must fill in your company information and approve the application conditions. In this way, you get login to the portal and the right to assign access to other colleagues.

Annual licence fee

The licence fee for the Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products is based on their turnover in the Nordic region.

Ecolabelling Sweden AB has no financial profit purpose and is financed through the fees above along with an annual government grant. The company is however liable for VAT according to article 56 of the European Council Directive 2006/112/EC.

Invoicing is made in SEK with the exchange rate from the first banking day of the year.

When both the applicant and the manufacturer are micro-enterprises, the application fee is reduced by 50%. A micro-enterprise is in this context defined as an enterprise with less than 10 employees and an annual turnover (of both ecolabelled and not ecolabelled products) below 2 million EUR.

Information on the latest version of the criteria for laundry detergents for professional use

Nordic Ecolabelling decided on 24 June 2025 to adjust requirement O3 by also exempting products classified as H311, provided that the classification and labelling are solely due to the presence of oxalic acid, peracetic acid, or hydrogen peroxide. The new version is called 4.2.

4.0 ⇛ 4.1: Adjustment of criteria

Nordic Ecolabelling decided on 12 March 2024 to clarify that coloured packaging components made of PP may have up to 5% PE if it comes from masterbatch and that recycled plastic, which is bought in as a type of polymer, e.g. PP, considered monomaterial (O12). On April 16, 2024, it was decided to extend the transition period for TiO2 in requirements for classification of constituent substances (O4). The new version is called 4.1.

4.0: New criteria generation

New criteria were adopted on 16 August 2023. The new version, 4.0, is valid until 31 December 2027.

3.16 ⇛ 3.17: Adjustment of criteria

An adjustment is made in requirement O4: The transition period for TiO2 in requirements for classification of constituent substances (O4) is extended until 31 August 2025.

3.15 ⇛ 3.16: Prolongation of the criteria

The validity of the criteria has been prolonged. The new version is called 3.16 and is valid until 31 August 2025.

3.14 ⇛ 3.15: Adjustment of criteria

Nordic Ecolabelling decided on April 16, 2024, to extend the transition period for TiO2 in requirements for classification of constituent substances (O4). The new version is called 3.15.

3.13 ⇛ 3.14: Prolongation of the criteria

The validity of the criteria has been prolonged. The new version is called 3.14 and is valid until 31 March 2025.

3.12 ⇛ 3.13: Adjustment of criteria

Adjustment of requirement O4 where the transition period for titanium dioxidde in solid mixture, e.g. in enzymes, is prolonged until 30 June 2024.

Then new version is called 3.13 and is valid to 30 June, 2024.

3.11 ⇛ 3.12: Adjustment of criteria

Adjustment of requirement O3 by exempting sub-conmpontents classified as H412, and O4 where the transition period for titanium oxide has been extended.

Then new version is called 3.12 and is valid to 30 June, 2024.

3.10 ⇛ 3.11: Prolongation of the criteria

The validity of the criteria has been prolonged. The new version is called 3.11 and is valid until 30 June 2024.

3.9 ⇛ 3.10: Adjustment of criteria

Adjustment of requirement O18 by exempting H411  classified surfactants from the requirement. Then new version is called 3.10 and is valid to 31 December, 2023.

An alteration has been made to requirements O4 regarding a transition period for titanium dioxide. The new version, 3.9, is valid until 31 December 2023.

3.7 ⇛ 3.8: Prolongation of criteria’s validity

The validity of the criteria has been prolonged with 18 months. The new version, 3.8, is valid until 31 December 2023.

3.6 ⇛ 3.7: Alteration of criteria

An alteration has been made to requirements O21 regarding customer visits. The new version 3.7, is valid until June 30th, 2022.

3.5 ⇛ 3.6: Prolongation of criteria’s validity

The validity of the criteria has been prolonged with 6 months. The new version, 3.6, is valid until 30 June 2022.

3.4 ⇛ 3.5: Prolongation of criteria’s validity

The validity of the criteria has been prolonged with 18 months. The new version, 3.5, is valid until 31 December 2021.

3.3 ⇛ 3.4: Alteration of criteria

An alteration has been made to requirements O3, O12 and O18 regarding peracetic acid.The new version 3.4, is valid until June 30th, 2020.

3.2 ⇛ 3.3: Prolongation of criteria’s validity

The validity of the criteria for Nordic Ecolabelled laundry detergents for professional use has been extended. The new version, 3.3, is valid until June 30th, 2020.

3.1 ⇛ 3.2: Alteration of criteria

  • O7: An addition for microfibre textiles in the user test in Appendix 5 was introduced.

The new version 3.2, is valid until March 31st, 2019.

3.0 ⇛ 3.1: Alteration of criteria

  • O18, environmentally hazardous substances: Enzyme subtilisin classifíed H411 is exempted from the requirement.
  • O30, marketing: Requirement O30 was removed.
  • O7: Quartenary ammonium compounds which are readily degradable can be present in laundry detergents for professional use.

The new version, 3.1, is valid until March 31st 2019.

3.0: New criteria generation

New criteria were adopted on March 19th 2014. The new version, 3.0, is valid until March 31st, 2019.
